FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A few questions that often arise even before getting in touch. If something else is on your mind, please feel free to write through the form.
- Does seeing a psychologist mean someone is ill?
- No. People seek psychological support for many reasons: feeling stuck in life, difficulty in a relationship, a hard decision, or simply the wish to understand themselves better. The question is not whether someone is 'ill', but what occupies their thoughts, and whether a trained outside listener can be of help.
- What does 'candidate' mean?
- I already practise as a family and couples therapist; I am in the final, clinical-supervision phase of a four-year training programme, with ongoing supervision and personal therapy. The qualifying examination concludes that path, but the work I do with you is already a full therapeutic frame. (Note: this professional qualification is separate from the doctoral PhD, which is a research degree.)
- Online or in-person: which is better?
- The online frame here is the same as the face-to-face one: protected, with clear boundaries, and present with you. At present the work is online only, by video call, in English. For couples and families, joining from one shared room is ideal, but multiple locations are also workable when needed.
- What does confidentiality mean here?
- What is said in the session stays between us. In an online setting this also means: nothing is recorded, a secure (end-to-end encrypted) video platform is used, and clinical details are not exchanged by email or text message. Exceptions to confidentiality, such as immediate risk to life, are clarified together at the initial consultation.
- How should I prepare for the first session?
- Practically: a quiet, private space, a camera, a microphone, a stable internet connection; headphones are recommended. In terms of content: there is no need for a polished 'topic' in advance; it is enough to know why you would like to come. At the initial consultation (assessment, 70 minutes) we look together at what you need.
